On the night of Monday 11th March 2013, as a result of high tides and gale force winds, Swanage Pier sustained major damage to the walkway.

We are so grateful to a number of volunteers who helped to brace the affected section in the aftermath of the storm. The Pier is still open to the public up to the dog-leg but its a race against time because the Pierhead remains closed until we have the funds to carry out the necessary repairs.

We would like to thank everyone for their incredible support and for the generous donations towards the appeal.

SWANAGE was chosen as PIER OOF THE YEAR 2012 by the National Pier Society's 650 members. It is the first time we have won the award and it is a worthy reward for the very active and enthusiastic 'Friends' group who help to run it. No fewer than 22 different piers recieved nominations. BLACKPOOL NORTH and CLEVEDON in North Somerset tied for second place.
