Park to Pier Walk in partnership with Durlston Country Park and Jurassic Coast  

Saturday 26th September at 2.00pm  

Meeting at Durlston Castle, you will enjoy a talk by one of the Durlston Rangers. Before being met by a Jurassic Coast Volunteer, for a stroll down to the Pier, on the way discovering the history, wildlife and geology of Durlston bay. Once you reach the Pier, you will have the opportunity for a history talk led by a Pier Volunteer. 

Due to current guidelines walks will be restricted to 6 walkers, including the walk leader. Due to this you must book your place prior to the walk, by clicking the below button.

Tuesday 6th October at 7.30pm

Pier Volunteer, diver and amateur maritime archaeologist Nick Reed will explore different aspects of the varied facets of Purbeck’s fascinating maritime history. 

The Dorset Coast would have been one of the key targets if the Germans had invaded Britain during Exercise Sealion. Remains of the coastal defences still exist all along the coast and form an important historical legacy. Focusing largely on Swanage and the surrounding area, Nick will talk about how the defences were organised and what can be seen today.

Talks will be done via an online platform, of which details will be sent a week before the event.

Lasting around 30-35 minutes with question time afterwards. 

No charge but suggested donation of £5.00

A Maritime Graveyard

Tuesday 13th October at 7.30pm 

Pier Volunteer, diver and amateur maritime archaeologist Nick Reed will explore different aspects of the varied facets of Purbeck’s fascinating maritime history. 

 A map of the Dorset coastline reveals a huge number of shipwrecks. Nick will explore the history and story of some of the wrecks in our local area. 

Talks will be done via an online platform, of which details will be sent a week before the event.

Lasting around 30-35 minutes with question time afterwards.
