Online Series of Talks
Due to the positive feedback received from previous online talks, Swanage Pier have immense
pleasure in announcing a series of five talks about the wildlife, geology, and coastal history around the Purbeck Coast. These will be held on the last Thursday of the month, starting at 19:30. Each talk will last approximately 40 minutes and there will be the facility to ask questions.
The talks will take place via an online platform, please register for the talk you wish to attend and login details will be sent out a week prior to the talk.
Suggested donation of £5.00 per talk
Thursday 29th April – “Old London by the Sea”
Thanks to the Victorian entrepreneurs, George Burt and John Mowlem, Swanage has a unique collection of ephemera from London. The talk will look at the history of these objects and how they got to Swanage. After the talk you are guaranteed to view our lovely town with new eyes!

Thursday 27th May – The Kyarra
Lying on the seabed about a mile off the coast is the wreck of the Kyarra. Arguably one of the most famous wrecks on the South Coast. The display of artefacts from this vessel is one of the most popular exhibits in the Pier visitor centre. Pier volunteer and diver, Nick Reed, will tell the story of the fantastic time capsule and the role she played in WW1.
