Yoga on the Pier

Wednesday 4th, Wednesday 11th, Wednesday 18th and  Wednesday 25th August

Join local senior yoga teacher, Helen McCabe, for these weekly Wednesday morning yoga sessions on the beautiful location of Swanage pier this summer. These hour long sessions will be gentle guided flow classes suitable for all levels and will include an introduction to simple breathing techniques, some standing and seated postures and a guided relaxation. Anyone can benefit from the simple tools of yoga, which can be a wonderful practice for general wellbeing. Regular practice can develop strength, stability, flexibility and, ultimately, a calm mind.

£10.00 per session

£25.00 for three sessions

All levels and abilities welcome. Not suitable for children.

Summer Activities on the Pier

Wildlife above & below the Pier Trail

Monday 16th - Monday 30th  August

Hidden on the Pier are all different types of animals that you can find above and below the Pier, find  them all and discover an interesting fact.

£1.00 per child

Adult admission to the Pier applies.

Let's go Crabbing on the Pier & Plankton Lab 

Tuesday 17th & Tuesday 24th August - 10am -2pm each day

It's great fun dangling a line over the side of the Pier in the hope of catching the biggest crab but we also want to make sure our lovely crabs don’t get hurt in the process.

Come along on Tuesday 17th and Tuesday 24th August any time between 10.00am-2.00pm and find out how to crab safely, led by our lovely volunteers.

We will have some crabbing lines and buckets you can borrow but if you have your own then please bring them along (no hooks please). Bait will be provided.

** Plus also visit out science lab to discover the microscopic world that lives under the Pier.

Enquire when you arrive at the Pier and you will be pointed in the right direction.

Mosaics Art Workshops - Thursday 19th & Monday 23rd August - 9.30- 12.30pm & 1.30pm-4.30pm each day

Join local artist Heidi Steller in creating beautiful tile mosaics depicting the wildlife above and below the Pier. The artwork created will be used to decorate the pier and be admired by all who visit.

Voluntary Donation

Adult admission to the Pier applies.


Wednesday 25th August 2021

Enjoy an early evening boat trip with City Cruises to Poole, with fish and chips served at Poole on the boat before heading back to Swanage. Offering you vast panoramas of sky, sea, and sand as you pass Old Harry Rocks, Studland Bay, Sandbanks and into Europe's Largest natural harbour.

Leave 7.00pm from Swanage Pier.

Return to Swanage at 9.00pm

£19.00 per person 

Include Fish and Chips at Poole

Under 5-year-olds are free, no food included.  

Spaces are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.


Swanage Pier Wednesday History Walk 

Wednesday 25th August at 10.30am

Enjoy a tour following in the footsteps of the Victorians in a stroll along the pier, a pleasure that has been enjoyed by generations. 

Experience a breath of fresh air and great views while learning about the history of the pier told by one of our Volunteers.

Tours start at the gatehouse, normal admission applies to the Pier.

Art and Nature Drawing from Swanage Pier 

Tuesday 7th September at 10.30am   

In collaboration with local Artist/Tutor, Julie Herring

Enjoying the local views? Fancy having a go at ‘Drawing from nature’?  

Choose your topic, from Natural landscapes, seascapes, coastal scenes, shells & collections from the  shoreline, views of Swanage or the restored Victorian seaside pier itself.

Friendly tuition & guidance given by Dorset Artist/tutor, Julie Herring.

Monthly sessions: Learn ways of looking, observing and drawing from nature.

Suitable for beginners and improvers. No experience necessary.

A gentle activity to relax for 2 hours and enjoy your local scenery.

£12 per person (booking necessary below)

Please dress suitably for the weather and bring a sketchbook & pencils, (or ‘starter drawing packs’ are available to purchase on request). You may also like to bring a chair or cushion for the benches.

If the weather is too wet, wild and woolly the class will be cancelled, and we will let you know via telephone and email.  In the event of cancellation due to the weather, a full refund will be given, or money transferred over to another date if there is availability.

You are welcome to use the Swanage Pier cafe, toilets and parking on the pier (2 hours parking: £4)

Seasons of the Sea (creative writing workshop) with refreshments 


Join Sarah Acton…for a creative writing workshop on the pier and in the private pier classroom indoors, taking inspiration from the sea, the seasons and Purbeck stone.  With nature readings, exercises, prompts, discussions and reflective journaling, this workshop encourages creative practice and wild writing to spark new thoughts, ideas and fresh (and often surprising) writing in any style, with lots of tips on generating inspiration both wild writing outside and developing writing at your desk. Suitable for all ages and abilities. Tea and biscuits included.  Bring a pen and paper and dress for the weather!
